The view below is taken from my hotel and as you can see there is a dusting of snow on the mountains already; the conference has commenced and it is indeed a privilege to hear of the activities and developments in the retirement, aged care and ageing sectors globally.
Our industry is certainly a hive of research, activity, review and renewal; the overwhelming message so far is about wellness and wellbeing; the importance of providing supports that are discussed, agreed and ensuring that the resident is at all times placed in a position of control.
With the Kim Pryde Scholarship currently open for submissions there is an opportunity for staff to enter into some research that would provide greater care and services for our residents; examples; increased technology to enable residents to continue to live well and have greater understanding of their health (self-monitoring of fundamental observations); technologies that provide monitoring without intrusion etc; changed management of memory loss – creating an environment that enables the maintenance of skills and living while ensuring safety.
Many of you have ideas and skills; passions and experience that with direction could provide major changes to the way we deliver care and services at JMV.
